The Viking Explorers Rally presents new logo and looks into a promising future

After 4 years of successful rallies we proudly launch our new logo.

“Viking Explorers has developed in such a way in the last years that we needed a change to reflect what we really are today”, says Carlota from Viking Explorers.

The logo has been created by professional designer Pablo Bartrina

following the Viking Explorers ethos. www.bartrinadesign.com

The Core Ethos of the Viking Explorers Rally

An exclusive, reduced, organized and international fleet of all kind of boat sizes, ages and colors, where apart from safety, our aim is to create a nice family atmosphere with like minded people with the same goal: Be safe and have fun crossing the Atlantic Ocean in a smaller more private group.

With a limited fleet of 25 boats we consider ourselves the friendly rally “from sailors for sailors” with a very unique and friendly format.

The Viking Explorers´ format : safe, flexible and with a personalized service

Being part of a reduced group ensures a much better relationship between our participants and the organizing team. It increases enormously the camaraderie, safety and a much more “private service” can be provided. Everybody gets to know each other, even months before the departure through on-line meetings and a Whatsapp Group for the fleet, which is an extraordinary tool, for getting updated information of others before the departure, and a very nice family atmosphere with like minded sailors is created, another of so many benefits only possible on smaller fleets.

The departure is an unanimous decision

There is no official departure; on the 4th of January at the prestigious Royal Yacht Club of Gran Canaria, skippers decide if it is safe to leave on the 6th, the expected departure. This is prudent seamanship.

Attendance to seminars and lectures are highly recommended but not mandatory and are being also offered online. The departure can be from other islands and regions but the organization highly recommends to be in Gran Canaria and be present at their seminars and get-togethers.

The stop in Mindelo is also an option now, as some prefer to sail the direct route to Grenada and wait for the rest of the fleet.

About safety ?

Safety is our first priority though there is no compulsory equipment, but the organization suggests to strictly follow the world sailing offshore regulations and a liferaft, Epirb, 2 way communication and tracking is essential. The organization has the right to refuse no seaworthy vessels or unexperienced crew and every skipper is responsible for his own boat and crew. There will be safety seminars among other interesting lectures in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.

Tracking The Fleet

Viking Explorers Fleet Map, offered by Predictwind

Viking Explorers has the support of Predictwind offering their Fleet Map Tracking Interface since the start in 2018. The Onshore Tracking Team will be monitoring the fleet.

Arrival in Grenada a few weeks later...

Viking Explorers will arrive in Beautiful Grenada after a few weeks out at sea. They will be Welcomed by the Grenada Tourism Authority, Port Louis Marina and Westerhall Estate Rum, the Official Arrival Hosts.

Some activities will be organized in Grenada for those arriving early, and before the Official Welcome Ceremony on the 9th of February.

Sailors will discover Grenada, the Spice of the Caribbean and after enjoying this three island state some will sail the Caribbean, up the chain, others will sail further to other also exotic destinations...

We care for the ocean

We consider ourselves ECO-Friendly. We do not send out big manuals but provide each boat with an interactive crossing guide of over 100 pages, which is permanently updated with all the necessary information for this Atlantic Crossing.

The Viking Explorers does a great effort in helping the environment. We

collaborates with the Program Sail and Whale, the GOES Foundation and local companies. Participants are encouraged to forward data with sightings of cetaceans and plankton observations among others.

The Viking Explorers tries to reduce their negative impact towards the environment, reduces drastically plastic used at their events, and creates awareness within the sailing community for a better and cleaner planet.

A great support by many

Our rally has had so far a tremendous success and this year it has been indeed a very special one due to the Pandemic situation and the big support received by many, where everyone has contributed to the success, adapting to the continuous changing health protocols.

The Viking Explorers 2022 is sponsored by the Grenada Tourism Authority, Camper & Nicholson Port Louis Marina and Westerhall Rum. Budget Marine being the official supplier for the Caribbean and minor sponsors “Friends of Viking Explorers”, are Imray, Hydrovane, Predictwind, Puerto Tazacorte, Marina Mindelo, Island Dreams Grenada, Coyaba, Yacht Agents Galapagos, Clarke Carter Caribbean, Moorsafe, Dive Grenada, Arehucas, Spice Island Marine, Naturbrush, Blue Light Gin, True Blue Bay, Bambaw and Eis-Insurance.

The Seven Seas Cruising Association, the Ocean Cruising Club, Trans-Ocean, Anavre, 8islas.com, The Royal Yacht Club of Gran Canaria, the Grenada Yacht Club and MAYAG
