The Viking Explorers 2022 sign up is now closed with an international fleet of 22 boats.
For many it's been years of preparations and dreams about crossing the Atlantic. Now the Viking Explorers fleet gets ready to meet in Gran Canaria on the 12th of December for seminars and lectures.
After sailing from different parts of the world down to the Canary Islands, the fleet will get ready for their adventure that will bring them some thousand miles westwards to the caribbean shores of Grenada.
With 22 boats the 5th edition welcomes crews from New Zealand, Australia, Belgium, UK, Italy, Sweden and France among others.
The fleet has been in contact for the last months through online get togethers and an exclusive WhatsApp group where already the organization has been giving a private support to each participant while arriving to the Canary Islands.
The smallest boat is a nice Albin Ballad, Sy Havanna from Sweden with 9,15m, being Sy Eleuthera, a 18.5m Fountain Pajot from New Zealand the biggest boat.
Jack, is Taigan dog, and Aphrodite, a sailor cat, that are also part of this years international fleet, something not unusual at our Viking Explorers family.
"We are so happy and almost know everyone already through the online meetings and WhatsApp Group. It will be exciting to meet everyone in person", says Carlota from Viking Explorers.
Crews will enjoy a week of seminars, lectures and fun evenings in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, before a Christmas break.
Boats should be fully ready by January, where after a Skippers Briefing at the Royal Yacht Club of Gran Canaria, the fleet will leave for the Atlantic journey across the Atlantic on the 6th of January, if it is so agreed within the fleet. Some with the direct route to the caribbean island of Grenada, others with an intermediate stop in Mindelo Cape Verde.
The Viking Explorers rally format has been very well accepted by sailors, with bookings already into 2023 and 2024.
Being part of a reduced group ensures a much better relationship between participants and the organizing team. It increases enormously the camaraderie, safety and a much more “private service” can be provided. Everybody gets to know each other, even months before the departure through on-line meetings and a Whats-App Group for the fleet, which is an extraordinary tool, for getting updated information of others before the departure, another of so many features only possible on smaller fleets.
The sign up for the 6th event of the friendly rally “Viking Explorers 2023” counts already with 18 preliminary entries and will be officially opened very soon, due to the big acceptance and interest shown by sailors.
